This school year, I have been assigned to teach 7th and 8th grade Math and 7th grade Social Science. I am excited about the opportunity to provide quality instruction to middle school students.
I look forward to working with your child this school year. I have planned engaging activities to help your child meet the Common Core Standards for Math. As a STEM school student, your child will learn by solving real-world problems through experimentation, using technology, and collaborating with their peers. Although discovering mathematical phenomena will be our focus, we will also concentrate on developing habits of mind that will improve students’ characteristics for success.
I will use the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts to deliver Social Science instruction. Students will learn to use primary sources to ask and answer questions about how our society is shaped.
Please review the vital information that will assist you in ensuring that your child is successful this year.
For 7th – 8th grades, we will explore the following Math domains in a particular sequence this year this school year:
- The Number System
- Equations and Expressions
- Ratios and Proportions
- Statistics and Probability

At the beginning of each week, I will send home a weekly newsletter with your child. The newsletter will have your child’s homework assignments for the week. Homework assignments are due the next day, unless stated on the assignment sheet. The weekly newsletters will also be posted here and on my webpage on the school’s website.
Students will work in cooperative learning groups and instructional groups; therefore, it is important that students exercise self-control. Please impress upon your child the importance of governing him/herself during class. I have a goal to make your child successful and I need him/her to cooperate. Your assistance in this is very much appreciated.
Students should always be prepared for class. Having the necessary materials will help in making your child successful in math this school year and throughout all of his/her schooling. For the supply list, please click here. If I teach your child Math and Social Science, then he/she should have the supplies listed for both subjects. For example, your child will need 8 composition books and 2 bottles of hand sanitizer. Please have all supplies for your child by Monday, September 8, 2014, or contact me with the date you will have the supplies for your child.
